| We have a number of qualified officials within our club but are still very short, especially within our county. If you would like to become a timekeeper or judge, for example, then the details below will give you further guidance, or talk to Gerald Staddon. By becoming qualified you can take advantage of the free entry to swimming meets where you help out and free lunches are often provided. A list of our officials and their qualifications: |

Thinking of becoming an official in swimming? Then look no further! This page includes all the information and links on the subject. Becoming a Swimming Official is progressive, you start by qualifying as a Timekeeper and then progress on to a Judge; a Starter and finally a Referee. There are a number of different exams according to area you are qualifying in. These National exams for officials do not all take place at the same time of year. Visit the ASA web site officials section to learn more information, download forms and have a read of the Swimming Officials News. It is also possible to look at the ASA Technical Rules for Racing. Timekeeper: You can take the exam to become a timekeeper in November, but also the ASA has arranged what has become known as ad hoc Timekeepers exams. These can be taken at anytime during the year and are arranged by Gary Heath and the District Organiser. Currently there is a minimum requirement of six persons before the District Organiser will set an exam paper. Links: Past Timekeeper Examination Papers ASA Examination for Timekeeper Form Judges & Starters: The Starters and Judges exams are held in November each year and if there is enough demand I will arrange several Tutor Sessions during October for candidates. Links: Past Judges Examination Papers Past Starters Examination Papers Referee: The Referees Exam is held each October. Usually the ASA will hold a weekend seminar in September at Loughborough for those embarking on this exam. In Gloucester County anyone wishing to attend this seminar and take the Referees Exams will have the costs met by the County.
